John Scofield is what you might call a musician’s musician. In the biz for more than five decades he is a guitarist and composer who has played with the likes of Pat Metheny,Herbie Hancock and Phil Lesh, and now this triple Grammy award-winner will stop by our stage for the evening. His distinctive sound is honed from august virtuosity and a finely hewn matrix of post-bop, jazz,
R&B, blues and country.

Buddy Layman, an unusual boy scarred by losing his mother in an incident where he nearly drowned, has the strange power of divining – finding water with just a forked stick. When a disenchanted preacher, C.C. Showers, passes through his town looking for work and food, he takes an immediate liking to Buddy. While C.C. wants to move away from preaching, the townspeople want him to help rebuild and restart the town church. Meanwhile, C.C. tries to coax Buddy past his debilitating fear of water, leading to a series of shocking events.  Based in 1930s Indiana, this visually beautiful and theatrical experience promises both humor and pathos. 

Join us for this very special production of The Nutcracker as the Methuen Ballet Ensemble takes the stage at the Dana Center! Methuen Ballet Ensemble, an established local ballet company under the artistic direction of Vanessa Rae Voter, has staged The Nutcracker for over twenty-five years.  

Principal roles are performed by company dancers of Methuen Ballet Ensemble, whose experience totals over 150 years of classical ballet training under Ms. Voter’s tutelage at Voter’s School of Dance. 

This year’s production will also feature very special world renowned professional guest dancers, Emily Entingh and Sabi Varga in the roles of Sugarplum Fairy and Cavalier.

Each year, this production has become more elaborate with stunning visual effects and custom-designed costumes and props. All performances include a giant growing Christmas tree, and an abundance of snowfall.
