Dr. Max Latona, who has served as Executive Director of the Center for Ethics in Society since its founding in 2017, will be stepping into a new role at Saint Anselm College as Executive Director of a newly created Office of Partnerships. Starting September 16, Latona’s work in the new office will be dedicated to advancing the College’s Vision 2025 strategic plan, focusing on fostering transformative alliances with external institutions, businesses, and organizations.
Under Latona's leadership, the Center has become a pivotal force in promoting ethical discourse and community engagement. The Center has significantly contributed to the conversation on affordable housing, facilitated ethical competitions and discussions for students, and enriched community partnerships.
“I have great confidence in the Center’s future,” stated Latona. “It is making a meaningful difference for individuals, organizations, and communities throughout the state and region. Supplied with new leadership, as well as the continued support of our talented staff, our Board of Advisors, alumni and community partners, the Center will grow in new and significant ways.”
In light of Latona's transition, the College will conduct an internal search for a new permanent CES Faculty Director and a Director of Housing Programs, a newly established role reflecting the success of the Center’s housing initiatives. The expectation is to fill both positions by January 2025. Until that time, Latona will continue to manage the housing program initiative.
While these searches take place, the Center’s Academic Committee Co-Chair Dr. Marc Rugani will serve as Interim Director of the Center. Rugani, with his extensive background in theological ethics and Catholic social teaching, has been instrumental in supporting the Center’s mission and guiding its programs. He will be supported by Hannah Deignan ‘21, who will continue as Assistant Director of Programming and Student Engagement.
In his new role, Latona will be working to develop strategic external partnerships, enhance experiential learning opportunities, and expand employment prospects for students. His experience with community engagement and partnership-building at the Center will be a valuable asset in his new position.
Latona expressed enthusiasm and mentioned that he is not leaving the Center entirely. “In my new capacity of advancing partnerships and collaborations for the entire College, I will have the opportunity to continue to help the Center grow,” said Latona. “I look forward to working with the Center’s new leadership.”
