Access Academy is an after-school academic initiative designed to empower Manchester high school students who are often underrepresented in higher education. We focus on supporting students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation college-bound students, diverse communities, and those who do not live at home.

Every Monday and Tuesday, our college student-led courses provide participants with essential academic skills, mentorship, and opportunities for career exploration—all while earning high school credits. Our dynamic curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, from computer technology and science to music, photography, and personal finance. Access Academy is more than just an educational program; it’s a place where students build lasting friendships that motivate and sustain their educational and personal goals.

  • 14 on-campus courses each semester with additional courses in community
  • Courses taught primarily by college students
  • Access students can earn high school credits
  • 185 un-duplicated students in 2023-24, many taking two courses in both semesters
  • 25 countries represented in 2023-24

I began working with Access Academy in my freshman year, and my passion for service has only grown since then. The Meelia Center is a remarkable place to learn about the Manchester community and beyond. It's also an amazing space to make new friends and discover new things.
