The New Hampshire Institute of Politics (NHIOP) at Saint Anselm College, is delighted to have welcomed 25 new Kevin B. Harrington Student Ambassadors into the program this past January. The students represent the states of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, while one student hails from Oregon.
Students applied in early November to be admitted into the program. Applicants attended numerous NHIOP events, interviewed with program co-chairs Maeve McAllister ’23 and Grace Tierney ’24, then received their acceptance in January.
Students are encouraged to apply regardless of their major. The new ambassadors are politics, communication, business, marketing, economics, and nursing majors.
Program Assistant Thomas Case is excited for the opportunities the new ambassadors will have at the Institute. “We are all excited to welcome our newest members into the Kevin B. Harrington Student Ambassador Program. We have a busy and active presidential primary season already underway in New Hampshire so there are a lot of great opportunities and memories in store,” said Case.
The ambassadors are placed and serve on one of the four program’s committees: civic engagement, community outreach, communications, or events. In addition, students will greet, usher, and introduce or interview guests. As the New Hampshire primary draws near, the ambassadors will have the opportunity to work and experience a presidential debate.
New student ambassador Maya Pontes ’26 is eager for the opportunities the program has to offer. “I’m especially looking forward to the 2024 election season and to be able to experience all of the political activity on campus,” she said. “I hope to take advantage of as many opportunities as I can. I also want to use the time I have to learn as much as possible from the more experienced ambassadors and members of the NHIOP staff.”
The Kevin B. Harrington Student Ambassador Program is now home to 85 students.
