On Monday, March 11, 2024, a group of Saint Anselm students had the unique opportunity to participate in President Joe Biden’s first visit to New Hampshire during the 2024 campaign season.
The students volunteered in a variety of ways, including, setting up for the event, parking logistics and press escorts. Two students worked as drivers in President Biden’s motorcade, escorting members of the press to and from the airport tarmac to area events. The 20-plus car motorcade included WMUR’s Adam Sexton, Politico, and the Associated Press.
Kellan Barbee ’26, a Politics major, played a role as one of the drivers in the procession. Reflecting on the experience, Barbee expressed, “It was a privilege and an honor to drive members of the press around as part of the President’s motorcade. I’m grateful to the NHIOP and the student ambassador program for facilitating this experience for myself and other students.”
During the visit, Biden first made a campaign stop in Manchester, and then he delivered a speech on lowering health care and prescription drug costs at the Goffstown YMCA. The students sat in the audience of President Biden’s remarks at the YMCA and participated in photos with the commander-in-chief.
“It was truly an incredible and surreal experience to meet a sitting president. It has been a highlight of my involvement in the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, and a day I will not soon forget,” said Politics major Amani Clemons ’24.
