Students Maeve McAllister and Grace Tierney have been appointed as the program co-chairs for this year’s Kevin B. Harrington Student Ambassador program at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics (NHIOP) at Saint Anselm College. This is McAllister’s second year, Tierney’s first.
As program co-chairs, they have the responsibility of running NHIOP ambassador events, overseeing all the committees, and working closely with NHIOP Executive Director Neil Levesque and Program Assistant Thomas Case ’18 on the Institute’s student engagement efforts.
“Maeve and Grace have been incredibly important to the Institute. As leaders of the ambassador program, they ensure that students all over campus have access to civic education and engagement opportunities. In addition to managing this program, they both go above and beyond to assist the IOP’s staff; always stepping up to help us provide quality programs for our community,” said Case.
McAllister and Tierney have several goals for the program this year.
“We hope to accomplish a lot this year, with a focus on service and inclusion with an emphasis on creativity among the committees and all our ambassadors. We want to be an outlet and resource for ambassadors and the Saint Anselm community in general, especially with all the political events coming up locally and nationally.”
McAllister is a politicsand criminal justice double major from Melrose, Mass. Her favorite part of being an NHIOP ambassador is interacting with fellow students who want to engage in politics. She also enjoys the ability to engage with people from all over the world who are passionate about politics. Outside of the program, McAllister enjoys Irish dancing and has done so since she was four years old.
Tierney is a politics and communication double major with a minor in campaign management from Merrimac, Mass. She enjoys making connections across politics, communications, community service, and more. She says there is no limit on what you can learn and experience. Tierney shares a unique fact that her mom is British, so her grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins live in England and Ireland, where she often visits.
