U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas, who helped secure $2.2 million toward the construction of a state-of-the-art nursing and health sciences facility at Saint Anselm College, visited the future home of the Jean School of Nursing and Health Sciences on Friday, October 11, 2024.
“There is a growing personnel crisis in the healthcare industry, and it is felt acutely here in the Granite State, where one in every five nursing positions is vacant,” said Dr. Joseph A. Favazza, president of Saint Anselm College. “We are committed to growing the number of health professionals we can educate, which in turn will help address the dangerous staffing shortages.”
Congressman Pappas joined the college’s Board of Trustees to discuss how Saint Anselm has been working to address the nursing shortages in New Hampshire and took a tour of the new building. The $2.2 million secured by Congressman Pappas in congressionally directed spending was part of the $1.7 trillion omnibus bill signed Dec. 29, 2022.
“It couldn’t be more vital for us to focus on the health and wellbeing of our state and our communities, ensuring we’re educating the next generation of nurses right here in New Hampshire, and right here at Saint Anselm College,” stated Pappas. “That’s why the work done here at the Jean School is going to be pivotal for New Hampshire’s competitiveness and our ability to meet the needs of our residents.”
In response, Saint Anselm is investing in the next generation of healthcare leaders with a $40 million campaign for the Jean School of Nursing and Health Sciences; $32 million will support the Jean School of Nursing and Health Sciences and the construction of Grappone Hall, and $8 million will go toward scholarships. Grappone Hall is slated to open in Fall 2025.
“Thank you, Congressman Pappas, for visiting the Hilltop today, and for your critical support of the future of health professions here in New Hampshire,” said Dr. Favazza.
